Perfect time to travel: April

Traditional Sinhalese and Tamil New Year fall on the 14th of April every year. The event is celebrated according to the astrological calculation of the movement of the sun. This is a great opportunity to experience the traditional Sri Lankan cuisine which is sure to excite your tastebuds.

Perfect time to travel: May

Another Day celebrated religiously by the SriLankans is the Vesak Full Moon Poya day in which all houses and streets are strung in Lanterns and all forms of light. People from all over the country get together to create pandols and other creative forms of light. It is truly a day to be celebrated with a open heart and kind spirit.

The Kandy Esala Perahera (the Sri Dalada Perahara procession of Kandy) also known as The Festival of the Tooth is a festival held in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is housed at the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. A unique symbol of Sri Lanka, the procession consists of traditional local dances such as fire dances and performances in whip-dance garments. The festival ends with the traditional Diya-kepeema ritual, a water cutting ceremony which is held at the Mahaweli River at Getambe, Kandy.

Extending from July to September, this is the season of surfing at Arugam Bay beach where you can catch the most mesmerizing waves and treat itself to a day of fun and excitement on the waves.
